Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat happens when I go to you for help? There will be a gateway appointment first, where we will assess the help that you require. After that we can arrange an appointment with one of the generalist or specialist advisors, if your problem is complex and one that cannot be dealt with at the gateway assessment. What is a gateway assessment? This is the first port of call you have with us. A gateway assessment is a short interview, lasting for 10 - 15 minutes. During the interview, the assessor will listen to your enquiry and decide how best we can help you. Sometimes, information can be given straight away, or we may arrange to telephone you later, or make an appointment for you with an adviser. How long will it take for my problem to be resolved? It depends on the complexity. Sometimes we can give you information at this stage, but sometimes it is necessary to spend more time, and then we will make an appointment. We may make several appointments so we can ensure you receive the information and advice you need to manage your problem. Is there a way of finding information without coming to a gateway assessment? Yes, you can get lots of information on www.adviceguide.org.uk which is the online self help site of Citizens Advice.Do you give telephone advice?
