Health Outreach Serviceimage highlighting stress related symptoms: anxiety, depression, headaches, insomnia

Hands up who has experienced stress due to problems relating to issues like Debt, Redundancy, Bereavement, Unemployment, Housing Issues, Disability Issues, Sickness Benefits, Consumer Issues, Employment Issues, Divorce / Separation and Bullying in the work place.

Problems that cannot be easily resolved can potentially affect your health. Often the stress will present itself as symptoms, which will require you to seek advice from your GP. Although your GP will be able to treat the symptoms, they can not always advise on the issues that are causing them.

Health Outreach Advisers run regular advice sessions in the surgeries below, where you will receive free confidential and impartial advice on most issues. Referrals can also be made from other medical professions in the area such as PALS, District Nurses, Macmillan Nurses, Impact Team, and Health Visitors.

Don’t suffer in silence - seek advice today, by making an appointment with the receptionist at your surgery.

The bureau is pleased to announce that funding has been granted from Macmillan Cancer Relief for a new outreach project to help people with cancer and their families.

When someone is diagnosed with cancer, the first thing that comes to mind is how to cope with the illness. However, the cost of cancer can be expensive and that is where we can help.

We can help you to identify benefits that you may be entitled to , help with form filling, challenge any decisions if needed and help with asking for reviews and appeals.

For example, you could be entitled to disability living allowance, incapacity benefit or other benefits and if anyone is looking after you, they may be entitled to carer's allowance.

Our Macmillan outreach advisor will also identify any other problems that may be of concern: for example, problems with employers, housing issues and debt.

There are also extra costs involved depending on your situation, such as :

    * Personal expenses may increase to cover things like travelling to hospital, increased heating bills and new clothes if you lose or gain weight ;
    * You may need to stop work for a while ;
    * Your partner may need to stop work or reduce their hours to take care of you.

Unfortunately, many people don't realise that there is money available to help you or they may find it hard to ask for financial help.

We already work very closely with Macmillan nurses and other health professionals and this funding will enable us to reach more people.

Our advisors can be seen at Woodlands Hospice located in University Hospital Aintree and Queens Court Hospice in Southport ;
if you cannot get out and about, you can request a home visit and, wherever possible, we will endeavour to do this.
Appointments are made with the health outreach team on 0151 944 2401.

The addresses for the two hospices are :
